History repeats itself, but do the trends in Senior classes repeat as well? There is no question the seniors at ASK have changed through the years, but how have they changed, and what has stayed the same? The answer begins with ASK Academy’s first Senior class from 2013, when the first class flower, song, and quote was decided.

The class flower has changed from one senior year to another. There have been numerous class colors. Below is a history by year:

Class Flowers:

  • 2013- Red Rose
  • 2014- Lavender Rose
  • 2015- Orange Tiger Lily
  • 2016- Lotus
  • 2017- White Rose
  • 2018- Lotus
  • 2019- Tiger Lily
  • 2020- Cactus
  • 2021- White Rose
  • 2022- Red Spider Lily

Class Colors

  • 2018- Black and Gold
  • 2019- Teal and Gold
  • 2020- Silver and Black
  • 2021- Sky Blue and Light Gray
  • 2022- Red and Black

The classes of 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2021 had roses, but there were three varieties between the four graduating classes. 2016 and 2018s were both lotuses. For 2019’s it was a tiger lily, which is a general classification of flowers as opposed to 2015’s orange tiger lily. 2015, and 2020 both had silver and black as their class colors. 2016’s and 2022’s colors are red and black. 2017’s, and 2021’s colors are similar but different shades. Each year also had a class song, and quote. They can be found below

Class Song:

  • 2013-“Dream On”- Aerosmith
  • 2014-“Don’t Stop Believing.”- Journey
  • 2015-“Iris”- Goo Goo Dolls
  • 2016-“Good Riddance”- Green Day

Class Quote:

  • 2013- “Ask and you shall receive.”
  • 2014- “You have Brains in your heart, you have Feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”-Dr. Seuss
  • 2015- “The two most important days of your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why.”- Mark Twain
  • 2016- “We do not need magic to change the world; We carry the power we need inside ourselves already: We have the power to imagine better.”- J.K. Rowling
  • 2017- “The more you find out about the world, the more opportunities there are to laugh at it.”- Bill Nye
  • 2018- “If you are so desperate to stay alive, why don’t you live a little?”- Dr. Who
  • 2019- “I don’t know where I am going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”- David Bowie
  • 2020- “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”- Winnie the Pooh
  • 2021- “You will not know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”- Dr. Seuss
  • 2022- “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you might miss it.”- Ferris Bueller

All of the class quotes are unique, however, the quotes have different phases in their message. More recently, the graduating classes have been about the value of life, and not rushing through it, whilst 2018s and 2019s quotes are both about enjoying life to its fullest. As recent events such as COVID have occurred , many people have become more cautious recognizing the value of life more. This appears to be a theme to the recent class quotes. It is also strange how the first quote in 2013 had no author, as it is a saying. Since then, there have been no more sayings.

Are there any senior patterns? This can be answered by a survey taken by Ziven Lopez. About one-fourth of the seniors are female, whilst the rest are male. Even though most seniors choose a New Mexican college, the greater number expect to leave New Mexico after college. It is also interesting to note that most are choosing engineering as their pathway and their favorite grade was 12th by a landslide, with a whopping 62.9% choosing it as their favorite school year at ASK.

What will the class prompts be next year? Using the data gathered from next year’s seniors, this year’s juniors, we can make a few educated guesses. When asked, the juniors stated that the next year’s flower will likely be one that has already been chosen in a previous year, such as the Lotus. The color will most likely be a shade of blue, because all participants named a different shade of blue. Following the trends, the class song will likely be a pop song, since the majority stated it would be a new song, or a pop song from their childhoods. Finally, the quote will most likely be one of humor, as they all stated a humorous quote, or idea. The seniors started just like everyone else and have made it far in their 13 years of school. Wish them a happy graduation, and to all seniors out there, what do you think that next year’s classes will have, and most importantly, Good Luck!
