Last Saturday The ASK Academy’s first ever home basketball game was held at the Boys & Girls Club. The ASK Androids — a mix of seniors, juniors, and sophomores, played against Nuestros Valores, an Albuquerque charter school. The score was close throughout all four quarters of the game. ASK lost by 6 points with the final score being 75 to 69.

Coach Paul Stephenson’s starters consisted of Cole Jensen (20), Tanner Mullikin (13), Easton Langdon (25), Timothy Lewis Jr. (7), and Michael Lucero (31). At the beginning of the game the Androids won the jump-ball and gained possession. At the end of the first quarter Nuestros Valores was ahead of ASK by 3 points with the score being 16 to 13.

In the second quarter Mullikin, Jensen, Lewis Jr., Shae Gonzales (23), and William Jackson (22) started. As the clock ticked, the game became physical and some players gained free-throws due to the fouls. The score at the end of the second quarter was 36 to 30. The crowd was amped as the Androids got one point away from tying with the other team in the third quarter. ASK was behind by 5 points at the end of the third quarter. During the fourth quarter the Androids tied the score 60 to 60 with Nuestros Valores.

Jensen, an Android team captain, scored 39 points, 15 out of 23 free throws and 6 out of 10 three pointers.  Mullikin, co-captain, had the most rebounds with 17.

This was an exciting first game for the players, who have been practicing hard all season, as well as ASK fans, who were anticipating the first game.

I think it was a great experience, especially for ASK, and it was great to see all the people there supporting the team. The team also performed well,” said sophomore Lorenzo Gomez, a scholar in the crowd.
