Next year, even more scholars will be filling the halls of ASK, and there is concern about balancing the number of students in the PE elective. PE is required by the state of New Mexico – and ASK only has one PE teacher, Candice Lemons. Often times, students wait until their senior year to take PE, and then cannot get in the course because of overcrowding. The administration has been working to solve these issues.
“It is now strongly suggested that all next year’s freshmen scholars take physical education as an elective,” says General Manager, Daniel Busse. This is suggested so fewer upperclassmen will have to take the class in the following years and the class numbers will become balanced out.
Another option for all scholars is to take PE in summer school. The classes will last from May 30 to June 9th and will cost a fee of $100. The registration for these classes will end on May 5th. Freshman Rodney Reichert said, “This program is definitely an option, as I will get my PE credit over with.”
