River of Lights

Experience millions of glowing, sparkling lights and over 150 dazzling light displays, animated sculptures and synchronized music light show at New Mexico’s largest walk-through holiday production.  ($12)

Winterfest is the Civic Plaza kickoff event for the holiday season. This free event highlights the skating rink from 12-5 p.m. at Santa Ana Star Center and features live performances along with lots of local arts and crafts vendors for Christmas shopping (it takes place on Small Business Saturday).



  • Friday December 2, 2016

Old Town Holiday Stroll

  • Tour the entire Natural History Museum for free during the Old Town Holiday Stroll, shopping. NatureWorks, look through a telescope in the Museum Observatory starting 6:00pm (weather permitting), or see a 3-D DynaTheater show. Hands-on activities for the whole family.
  • Free admission to Explora from 5-9 pm. Enjoy discount shopping and free cookies & cider at Ideas, the Store at Explora! Craft and color your own LED Mini Farolito de Luz, make chromatography holiday ornaments, plus photo op” ride our high wire bike with reindeer or santa props, and enter a raffle to win a year long Family Membership to Explora

Twinkle Light Parade

Albuquerque’s biggest ( free) holiday parade is taking place on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 5:15 p.m in Historic Nob Hill. It is a spectacular family-friendly holiday event featuring dozens of floats, marching bands, equestrian clubs, fire trucks, car clubs, and businesses. Free transportation is included.



  • Sunday December 11, 2016

Elephant Butte Luminaria Beachwalk and Floating Parade of Lights

Located at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, The Luminaria Walk, features thousands of luminarias lining paths on the beach leading to community-sponsored campsites with posole, cocoa, s’mores, and more. Hop on a hayride, join the carolers, or stop by the Elephant Butte Rotary Club’s campsite to make a donation to Make-A-Wish. The beautiful on-the-water parade begins at 6:30 p.m. (park entrance fee: $5)
