1950s-Themed Dance to Cap Off Spirit Week

November 24, 2014

By Catherine Crum

Scholars will come together for a night of fun at this year’s annual winter dance.  The theme of  this year’s dance is  Grease Lightning, and it will be held on December 6 at The Italian American Center from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The cost of the dance is $10, and the attire is one of two options: semi-formal or 1950s attire. Light refreshments will be served.

The ASK Dance Committee has been fundraising and planning all semester. The final fundraiser will be Spirit Week, to be held the week of the dance. Every day of Spirit Week is a different theme, and the class that has the most participants at the end of the week will receive the Spirit Stick for the remainder of the year. It will cost $1 to dress up each day of the week (except Thursday) and all payments must be made to Ms. Del Curto in Room 217 before the start of each day. Below is a calendar of Spirit Week events.

Please note – if you come out of dress code and have not paid to participate in the day’s theme, you will be written up.

Monday, December 1 – Ugly Sweater Day $1

Come dressed in your tackiest sweater. Uniform pants are still required.

Tuesday, December 2 – CosPlay Day $1

Come dressed as your favorite fictional character, such as Harry Potter or Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Please remember, costumes must be school appropriate, meaning nothing too revealing, short, or tight. Any scholar wearing inappropriate costumes will receive a referral and be sent home to change.

Wednesday, December 3 – 1950s Day $1

Come dressed as someone from the 1950s.

Thursday, December 4 – Dress for Success Day – Free

This day is ReCon, dress up in your nicest attire (as though you were going for a job interview). This day is free.

While everyone may participate in Spirit Week, the dance is for high school scholars only.
