Sam Reichman has dreams of becoming a professional Fighter

A new school year brings fresh faces to the ASK Academy. Sam Reichman brought his Louisianan flavor to the campus this year; The Catalyst caught up with the sophomore to grill him about his hometown and his aspirations of becoming a UFC fighter.

Why did your family decide to move from Louisiana from New Mexico?

“I really don’t know, for a job. And they really don’t like Louisiana.”

Do you like Louisiana or New Mexico better? Do you miss your home?

“Yeah, I miss Louisiana but I like it better here.”

Why do you like it better here? How is it different for you?

“New Mexico is dryer, not humid. I think I am just better off here.”

Do you have any siblings?

“Yes, I have a little sister.”

What grade is she in?

Does she plan on going to the ASK Academy next year?

“No, she is going to stay at Cleveland Middle School.”

At your school in Louisiana were you required to wear a uniform?

So transferring to the ASK Academy attire was not difficult for you?

“No, my uniform at my old school was more complex. You had to tuck your shirt in and wear an I.D.”

Do you participate in any sports?

“I am training for MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). It’s like a type of boxing.”

Does the fact that the ASK Academy doesn’t have any sports bother you?

“Yeah, it doesn’t really bother me. I used to play football but I don’t really want to do that anymore.”

Is boxing the only thing you do outside of school for fun?

“Yes. I want to get into competitions when I am eighteen.”

Why do you enjoy fighting more than other typical sports?

“I like fighting and I like the sport so I just want to do that.”

Are you enjoying the ASK Academy so far?

“Yeah, it is just a lot of work and the due dates and difficult to keep up with.”

Why did you choose the engineering pathway instead of biomedical pathway?

“I did not have any interest in Biomed.”

What do you want to do as a profession when you graduate high school?

“I want to be a UFC fighter and get into competition.”

Who is your favorite teacher?

“Mr. Nakai because he is so laid back, and he gives me time to make up all my work”

What is your favorite class?

“English, because Mr. Nakai gives me a break.”
